The number of COVID-19 cases reported in Singapore on Tuesday is nearly twice the previous day’s.

SINGAPORE: Singapore reported 5,996 new COVID-19 cases as of noon on Tuesday (Jan 25), comprising 5,578 local and 418 imported infections.
The infections include the number of Protocol 2 cases, after the Ministry of Health (MOH) changed its daily reporting structure last Friday.
Protocol 2 cases are individuals who are well and have tested positive, or have been assessed by a doctor to have a mild condition.
Two sets of numbers will be reported every day – one for the infections confirmed by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests, and another for the Protocol 2 cases.

The weekly infection growth rate is 2.68 down from Monday’s 2.69. A figure above 1 means that the number of new weekly cases is rising.
A total of 3,934 new Protocol 2 infections were confirmed on Tuesday, comprising 18 imported cases and 3,916 local cases.
Another 2,062 cases were confirmed via PCR tests. A total of 1,662 cases were local infections while 400 were imported.
As of Tuesday, Singapore has recorded 322,770 COVID-19 cases since the start of the pandemic.
Case numbers have been backdated to Jan 6 when general practitioners (GPs) started to order Protocol 2, for the purposes of calculating the total number of infections in Singapore as well as the week-on-week increase in infection numbers.
HOSPITALISATIONS AND VACCINATIONS
There are 509 patients in hospital, with 35 requiring oxygen supplementation. Ten patients are in the intensive care unit.
As of Monday, 91 per cent of Singapore’s eligible population have completed their full vaccination regimen under the national vaccination programme.
This figure includes children aged five to 11 after vaccination for this age group started on Dec 27.
